Laughton Whitehead was born in Longview, Texas, on February 2, 1939. He attended Longview High School, graduating in 1956, and Austin College, graduating in 1960. He then attended the Law School of the University of Texas, Austin, graduating in 1963. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1963. He practices in all courts in East Texas and is also admitted to practice in the U. S. Supreme Court, the U. S. District Court of the Eastern District of Texas, and the U. S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
He founded the Law Offices of R. L. Whitehead, Jr. P.C. and his areas of practice are: family law and litigation.
He has been board certified in family law, Texas Board of Legal Specialization, since 1986.
R. Laughton Whitehead, Jr. was born and raised in Longview, Texas, graduated from Longview High School, Austin College (BA) in Sherman, Texas and the University of Texas School of Law (LLB). He is licensed to practice law in all state courts in Texas, several United States District Courts, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U. S. Supreme Court. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the American College of Trial Lawyers, and the American Board of Trial Advocates, and a member of the American Bar Association, the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, the American Board of Trial Advocates, American Association for Justice, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, the College of the State Bar of Texas. He has been listed as a Super Lawyer in Texas Monthly Magazine from 2003 to date and listed in Best Lawyers in America from 1993 to date.
He has served on the District 2A State Bar Grievance Committee for six terms. He has attended, lectured and written publications at numerous Advanced Family Law Seminars from 1987 to present.
Matthew Smith was born in Dallas, Texas, in 1974. He graduated from Pine Tree High School in 1993. He attended Austin College, graduating in 1997, and the Baylor University School of Law, graduating in 2000. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2000 and practices in all courts in East Texas and the U. S. District Court, Eastern District of Texas.
He has practiced law at this law office since 2000. His areas of practice are: family law, litigation, and amicus services. Matthew has been featured in Texas Monthly Magazine as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in 2004, 2005, 2010, 2012, and 2013.
He became board certified in family law, Texas Board of Legal Specialization, in 2009.
